Activity

The students will recite the words to the poem.  Each time they read the poem, they will pick a new ocean picture to complete the poem. (Examples: a shell, a dolphin, or a starfish.)  The first time through the poem they will use the word cards to match the words on the word cards to the words on the sentence strips.

For added fun, they may use a sand shovel to point to the words as they sing the chart.

Poem:

Poem sung to: “My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean”

My ______ lies under the ocean.

My ______ lies under the sea.

My ______ lies under the ocean.

Oh! Bring back my _____ to me.

Assessment

I will observe the students as they are working in their center.  I will visually check the chart to see if it is correct upon completion.  If they have errors in the chart, I will pull those cards and help them complete the chart correctly.

Materials Needed

Chart sentence strips, chart word cards, ocean picture cards, pocket chart, and sand shovel.
