Objectives

*The students will be able to recite the words to the poem.

*The students will recognize the number words zero – five.

*The students will match word cards to the sentence strips.

Activity

The students will recite the words of the poem. Each time they read the poem, they will change the number word cards.  The first time through the poem they will use the word cads to match the words in the poem sentence strips.

          The students may act out the poem using the story pieces.  The story pieces will include 5 fish and a shark.

         

Poem:

          [Five] little fishes,

          Swimming in the sea.

          Teasing Mr. Shark,

          “You can’t catch me!”

          Along comes Mr. Shark,

          As quiet as can be…

          Snap!

          [Four] little fishes,

 

Assessment

I will observe the students as they are working in their center. I will visually check the chart to see if it is correct upon completion. If they have errors in the chart, I will pull those cards and help them complete the chart correctly.  I may ask them to tell me the number words on the cards.

Materials Needed

Chart sentence strips, chart word cards, story pieces (5 fish and 1 shark), and pocket chart.
